About this event

This workshop is part of DePaul 2022 AAPI Heritage Month celebration. It will be led by Dr. Anneliese Singh. In the workshop, Dr. Singh starts with a brief description of the connection between escalating anti-Asian racism in the U.S. and the roots of white supremacy and anti-Blackness in this country. In doing so, she invites participants to explore the impact on Asian American mental health issues prior to and during the COVID-19 pandemic, including those mental health issues that have been ignored or stigmatized among Asian communities. Attendees have an opportunity to participate in break-out rooms that explore how their own resilience, resistance, and coping strategies they have developed over multiple generations to move towards Asian liberation and cultivating solidarity with other BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) communities.

About the Workshop Moderator:

Anneliese Singh, PhD, LPC (she/they) is a Professor and Associate Provost for Faculty Development and Diversity/Chief Diversity Officer at Tulane University. Her scholarship and community organizing explores Asian American counseling and psychology as well as the resilience, trauma, and identity development experiences of queer and trans people, with a focus on young people and BIPOC people. Anneliese is the author of The Racial Healing Handbook: Practical Activities to Help You Challenge Privilege, Confront Systemic Racism, and Engage in Collective Healing and The Queer and Trans Resilience Workbook. Anneliese is co-founder of the Georgia Safe Schools Coalition and the Trans Resilience Project. Dr. Singh is @anneliesesingh on Twitter and Instagram, and her website is www.anneliesesingh.com.
